Frequently Asked Questions

  • What areas do you cover?
Our main base is in Bures, a small village just outside of Colchester. We cover most of Essex & Suffolk and some of Norfolk. If you have a large enough job for us, we are more then happy to make the journey, so long as our travel and time is covered. Where possible, we will group jobs together in one day to make it the best value for money for as many people as possible.
  • Whats the best way to contact you?
The most effective method of contact is to call or text me! I cant always answer, so be sure to leave a voicemail and either myself or Gary will call you back as soon as we can.
  • Can I call you for advice?
Of course! Don't ever be worried about asking for help or advice. Even if you think its something silly like how much milk a lamb should have, i will always be happy to answer any questions. And if im not able to help, ill call you back once ive spokent to Gary.
  • Can you treat my goats?
The short answer is yes. The longer answer is a bit more complicated. We are not able to provide wormers for goats as there is not licensed wormers for goat use. We always advise that the best practice is to speak to your vet first, and then we can happily help administer any treatments and medications that your goats may need. We can however treat foot problems just as easily as we can with sheep.
  • Help! Blowfly! What do i do?!
Call us. We offer an emergency blowfly strike service. We will shear the affected area, wash and remove all visible maggots and apply iodine and fly treatment. Its a really nasty job but if you own sheep, you will get it at some stage! We've had a number of vets phone us to assist with blowfly treatment. Most cases we can successfully treat on our own. However some very severe cases may well need additional veterinary assistance with antibiotics and pain relief.
  • How many sheep do you shear?
We tend to work with smaller flocks under 30 sheep. Whilst i have attained my blue seal in shearing, I am not a sheep shearer and the majority of sheep we shear are not commerical breeds, and are therefore a little more tricky. I would rather take a little more time and have all of us enjoy it. Im a tortoise, not a hare!
  • Will you help me lamb my sheep?
Of course we can! But we must remain realistic. If you have an issue, there is a short window of time to get a good outcome. If you are worried you have a problem, call us straight away to give us some warning. Dont be afraid to get stuck in either. Many problems can be easily solved by just feeling your way around the ewe. If possible, we can arrange for you to come and see some lambing and calving of our own animals if it helps you feel more confident. I have infact done several lambings over the phone successfully so all is not lost if we cant make it. But whatever happens, we are only a phone call away, even at 2AM!
